If you have played World of Warcraft, then you must now the classes. One of the most famous classes in World of Warcraft is the mage class. As it name applies, the mage class uses magic to cause much damage to your enemies. Mage also known for their special abilities of crowd control. Mage can freeze enemies in one place all at once. This should be very effective when fighting lots of enemies. Mage can also polymorph the enemy into a sheep and make them a weak opponent.

Although a mage is one of the most famous classes in World of Warcraft, it still has its own weaknesses. Mage is very effective for medium or long range combat. But if they are force to fight in close range combat, a mage is more likely to lose the battle. Mage also weak in physical defense. It is better to stay far away from an opponent. Magic attack is very powerful but need sometimes to cast a spell. If you are fighting in a wide open area, you will have more time to cast a spell since your enemy is also far from you. Wide open area also gives a mage enough spaces to run around avoiding physical attacks.

In World of Warcraft, mage classes are one of the most versatile classes. Here some tips to use if you choose your character to be a mage. This tips will make your adventure easier.

1. When you go into battle with an opponent, start casting your most powerful spell when given the chance. Do not use your weak spell. Just be sure you have enough space to cast the spell since casting a spell will take sometimes until the spell is ready. If the first spell successfully hit your opponent, immediately cast another spell. Hopefully you will be able to kill the enemy after your second spell, just before the enemy has a chance to strike you.

2. If you find yourself already in a close range combat and your opponent has successfully strike the first blow, then quickly freeze him and get away as far as you can. If there is another opponent, then quickly freeze him too plus use polymorph spell to turn the second opponent into a sheep. After that, hit the first opponent until he dies. You can use magic spell to kill the first opponent. Heal yourself afterward and hopefully the second opponent is still in sheep form so you can easily kill him. Or at least when you are fighting the second opponent, you are now in much better health level.

3. Since mage class is weak in physical defense, I suggest you to equip your character with lots of potion. Find or buy as many as potions you can have. The Auction House is one place you can buy potions and you can a good deal for potion and other stuff too. Beside potions, you may want to consider equipping elixir. Elixir has the effect for increasing your spell power and intellectual. Elixir can also be bought at the Auction House. Or another option besides buying is to combine herbalism with alchemy and create your own potion or elixir.

4. Every classes will have their own primary weapon. For a mage class character, your primary weapon will be a staff or wand. Wand is handier and more flexible to use. And I would suggest you to choose using a wand rather than a staff. A wand also great when your character is low on mana. It is easy for you to freeze your enemy using a wand and then you can freely hit your enemy with powerful spell or just a normal attack.

5. Do not forget about arcane intellect. Arcane intellect is very important for a mage class character. You will want this power to be up all the times along with another power of your choice. And do remember to make a good use of your elixir since it will greatly help you in winning the battle.

6. In the World of Warcraft, herbalism is a very good profession for a mage class character. When your characters level is high enough, your mage character can learn a very important skill which is Lifeblood. What is Lifeblood? Well, it is basically a powerful spell, not an attacking spell, but for healing or restoring your health in the middle of a battle. When you mastered this very useful spell, your journey will be a lot easier since now you have another option beside potion to restore your health.

7. When you are being ambushed by the enemies, I would suggest for you to run away first. Make some space between you and your opponent since mage is weak in close range combat. One spell which will be very effective for making space is blink. Blink will teleport your character away from the enemy. When you are quite distanced, you can cast spell to attack. Another effective spell when you are to close with the enemy is freeze. You can use the combination of the two spells to win your combat.

Follow the above tips in your quest in Azeroth as a mage class character and I assure you that your journey will be much easier. Whether you aim to be an arcane, frost or fire mage in World of Warcraft, those tips will help you to level up quickly and easily.

Aion, the MMO from well known MMO publisher NCsoft, has already enjoyed a successful launch in Korea and China. Now it is set to come to Europe and the USA, and as a fantasy MMO, it can’t help but get compared to World of Warcraft, the all-conquering MMO, but is that fair?

While Aion may never see the heights of success that World of Warcraft has achieved - the retained Eastern flavour may put some blinkered gamers off - there is a middle ground of success for MMOs that seems to get ignored by pundits. All Aion needs is enough gamers to generate the monthly revenue to make it profitable and by extension to ensure that enough gamers are in the MMO world so that it has a convincing and engrossing social and gameplay environment. Aion does have enough new gameplay ideas that it should attract an big enough audience for this.

Comparing Aion with World of Warcraft is tempting because it is easy as they are both fantasy MMOs, but the backstory to Aion is very different. It draws upon legends and mythology from around the world, although most heavily from Korea. The whole game world then both looks and feels different enough from World of Warcraft for gamers to feel they are experiencing something new.

A new MMO needs more than different graphics and environment though, and Aion supplies this. The new feature that will have most people interested, or at least the most obvious reason to be interested, is flight. Hit level 10 and you regain your wings (an Amnesia story arc explains why you’d lost them). Suddenly quests and combat can take place in all three dimensions rather than just on the ground. Hover over an enemy and blast them while they wave a sword ineffectually at you! Naturally, there are limitations on flight or else you would be invincible, so in the main world you have a limited flight time before you must land. This is removed in PvP areas. Flight certainly adds to the gameplay in Aion, but there is more to it than just this.

The classes in Aion might look a little slim on first glance - choose between Mage, Fighter, Scout and Priest when you create your character, but again level 10 holds the key. At this level you get to choose a sub-class or specialism. The good thing about this is you’ve had ten levels to hone your style of play before you have to choose what exact skills you will pursue. As an example, a Priest might opt for the buffing route or the out and out healer route.

Level 20 introduces another way to customise your character - Stigma Stones. Instead of having the abilities of your character fully defined by your class, you can use Stigma Stones to allow your character to do something that the class doesn’t normally permit. For example, Cloth Armour too lightweight for your melee loving Mage? Not to worry, a Stigma Stone will allow you to wear metal armour. This way you can create a set of bespoke skills that mean your character is actually quite different from someone else’s playing the same class.

Aion has little touches as well as big new ideas, so you do feel this is a well-rounded MMO: there’s the Locate feature that helps you find quest targets, the semi-transparent map that allows easier navigation and the Private Store that allows you to set up and sell to other players anywhere in-game.

If there were to be a complaint about Aion, it’s that despite the extensive localisation, some people may still find the graphics non-conventional. The Talking Weasels might put some people off. It’s also a shame that NCsoft weren’t prepared to open the UI up to third party customisation and plug-ins, which is one of the big USPs for World of Warcraft. But these are minor points in what is looking like a well crafted and polished MMO.

Aion is due to be released in September 2009 and is a PC only MMO. It will be a monthly-subscription based MMO.
